Athens, Greece Pt.1

Honeymoon Series:

Athens, Greece

Locations Visited:

Acropolis, Parthenon, Theater of Dionysos, Hadrian’s Arch, Temple of Zeus, Plaka

Weather: Extremely hot, scorching sun, had to stay hydrated. Evening became bearable.

First off, I am so flattered how many of you are appreciating this mini series! I’m just trying to do my best in giving pointers to traveling to different countries without panicking (that’s literally the best way I can describe it). Ladies, I cannot express how EXCITED I was to traveling to Greece…here’s a little background information about me. I was always very fond of World History growing up. I was an Art student in College, studied alot about the “Ancient” times, and LOVED my Art History classes. To me, this location was a dream come true…out of the books! The amount of excitement I had traveling to Athens (and Rome) were just out of this world. You know, when your growing up and learn about these places you dream of visiting one day (not knowing if you really ever will) but when you do, it’s a feeling of thankfulness of how God can make things work in mysterious ways Alhamdulilah (Thank God). My mysterious way was/is  my husband ❤ thank you for making my dreams come true, not just here but always.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh… ATHENS! Oh my goodness, this place was AH-MAZING. Like I said earlier, I read and dreamt of coming here and I did, I knew all the history of every single place, literally. I definitely made an itinerary for 2 days in Athens, because one day would NOT have worked. Well, we arrived a little later than our actual arrival time because our flight was delayed 3 times in Bulgaria due to weather conditions. So it was probably around 10-11pm that we arrived to our AirBNB, settled-in, we were starving so went out and found a cute corner cafe “Repeat Canteen”, and must I say…HIGHLY recommended if you go. We had a fresh oven-baked pizza and some yummy pastries. We then headed back, had a good nights sleep and next morning it was adventure time! This is when our honeymoon became “action packed adventure”. Breakfast was again at, Repeat Canteen, I finally had a delicious espresso (I hate coffee) but this was something else…I had 2 of them. Yup. That was my go-to drink in Greece…”Freddo Espresso”. I have asked Starbucks here and they look at me like “huh” so if any of you know the name or what I can get similar here PLEASE share.

We were then off to our first location of the day: “Acropolis”. Majority of the historical locations were here. Also related to as the “High City”, a huge hill looking over the city this is also the home of the famous “Parthenon”. The Acropolis is the authentic symbol of Greek Civilization (going back to the Neolithic Period) with its most important main structures: The Parthenon, The Propylaea, The Erechtheum and The Temple of Athena. Standing at the top of this high hill, you can see almost all of Athens, and remaining sites of Greek mythology. I was overly excited to get this day started, so we walked up through the “Beule Gate” (we did have to purchase tickets to enter) and then there was more walking towards the top of the Acropolis. Today was the day that we officially became sun burnt…we forgot to apply sunscreen when leaving and now it was just too late. In the photos you can see how near the sun was, literally in our faces. We both dressed accordingly to what I read about the weather, HOT. But hey, it was ALL worth it.

We took our time getting to the top, because we were both so fascinated by the architecture and this is where we came across the “Theater of Dionysos” also known as the birth place of European theater (how cool). The Greeks would hold rituals for the God Dionysos but now unfortunately the theater has become very old, so it has limited performances, while we were there they were preparing for an orchestra. It was beautiful to see. As we began to make our way to the top of the Acropolis, it was peak time of “tourist traffic”. I think this was the most difficult place to take pictures, it took us plenty of tries to get a few good shots ( P.S. this is when my husband started getting annoyed of me LOL). Now since this is a very old location, there were some handles made to hold on to and ramps on top of cracks and holes for the safety of the tourists it was still a little dangerous but the security did a great job of monitoring everyone so two thumbs up there!

And finally we were at the top of the Acropolis and like a kid in a candy store I stood there, looked around and spotted my eye candy…the Parthenon. My smile, if it could stretch off of my face in that moment I’m sure it would have, yeah THAT’S how happy I was. It was so beautiful, so historic, so real. This was the worlds most ancient surviving structure of Ancient Greece, let that sink in. Built for the Goddess Athena, this structure has gone through many places of worship- a fortress, a mosque and a church. I had a final on this image, and I remembered every little detail I had written on my 5 page essay (known by heart) on this piece. And I was there, standing right in front of it, knowing every details of the columns, representation, and so much more. Ladies, I’m literally pouring my heart out here haha.

My husband was standing next to me, and saw all those expressions on my face and was like “wow, this meant THAT much to you?” Yeah husband, it did. I think the entire time we were up there, I kept turning around to him and saying “thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing me here” and just smiled back and said “I’ve learned so much from you, you have so much knowledge of all these places”. Now that was the cherry on top <3. I promise ladies, I am trying to make this post VERY to the point because if I sit here and go into details, trust me it’ll end up being a book. We then explored around, took our time reading, took many photos, bumped into so many different kinds of people from around the world. Acropolis was done and checked off the list, and we began to head towards “Hadrian’s Arch” and the “Temple of Zeus” they were literally right next to eachother.

Hadrian’s Arch was a quick stop because it was a huge Arch on the road way, which basically divided “Old Athens” and “New Athens”. With that checked off, we made our way to the temple. Now this was the largest temple in Ancient Greece, bigger than the Parthenon. The temple used to have statues inside, but due to time they became ruined. One huge pillar is on the floor, it was mentioned of an earthquake had ruined the temple. By this time, the crowd had become less and we just sat down and took a break watching the sun getting ready to set and have its rays on the temple. The weather had become a liiiiiittttllleeee bit cooler than what we were going through. After a good half and hour of relaxing, we made our way to find some food and that was towards “Plaka”.

Plaka, as I read would be one the most “enchanting places in Athens” and you know what? It lived up to that sentence. This was a village within a city. Narrow streets filled with beautiful homes turned into strips of cafes, restaurants, live entertainment and loads of shops for shopping. It was extremely busy, but I loved the vibe. Each restaurant/cafe had their menu listed outside, we read through them and noticed majority of the menus were the same so we just picked a romantic restaurant and sat outside. The vibes of this place was so beautiful, we had a live violinist, candle lit dinner, delicious foods (we tried the Greek speciality which were stuffed tomatoes) and drinks. I must say, everyone was SO welcoming and kind, positive vibes everywhere that I felt like a true honored guest ❤

After having a beautiful dinner experience, we just explored around Plaka. Of course I had to get myself some souvenirs, so we shopped around.  As we were walking around, I saw so many people with this interesting looking ice cream and those who know me know I LOVE ice cream. We then came across a long line, and guess what it was? The cool looking ice cream! I forgot the flavor I got, but oh my goodness it was SO delicious. I obviously didn’t want to share so made my husband get me my own :-). The remaining of the night we just enjoyed in Plaka, the weather became lovely and Athens was extremely lit at night. And that ladies, concludes part 1 in Greece. Stay tuned for my next post because it’ll take your BREATH away! Trust me ❤

Much Love,

Nelo .A.

LuLaRoe’s collections start from leggings, to skirts, to shirts, to dresses you name it! With amazing mixtures of textiles and prints, unique designs, and a pop of lots of color ❤ ❤ ❤ “Each piece embarks on its own journey, complimenting the story of the beautiful person wearing it”. – LuLaRoe. These design sizes vary from XXS to 3XL, sizes for EVERYONE ladies (and gents).

LuLaRoe has tremendously overgrown their fashion “movement” by giving chances to ladies like you to be part of their “Fashion Consultant” movement. Luckily, one of my girls, Nadia has become part of their movement (yayyyyyy). She is quite new to this fashion movement, but boy has she become a pro! For LuLaRoe fashion consultation click on the link and show some love and support! (www.facebook.com/groups/LuLaRoewithNadiaChughtai)

What I am wearing here ladies, is known as the “Joy” lace cardigan. I mean the name honestly speaks my heart…its gorgeous! A very light-weight cardigan that fits every size, and it is available in a few light colors as such. I personally like oversized items, so the size I am wearing is an X-large. A perfect piece to either dress it up or dress it down, either way you can never go wrong with lace. Such an elegant touch to any outfit.

To balance the rest of my look, I paired the cardigan with a black top, khaki/nude skinny high-waisted pants, nude scarf, white block heels, and a white cross body purse. Voila! The location I wanted to use was for this shoot had to be fun and colorful, whats better than graffiti wall art? ❤

And there you have it ladies! My outfit details will be listed below, please feel free to leave any comments, and lastly go and shop some LuLaRoe goodies!

Much Love,

Eid Look #1

EID Al-Fitr 2016 Look #1

Happy Weekend!

How are all of my ladies from around the globe doing? How is Ramadan going for all of you? I hope Ramadan is going well and has brought very good changes in the all of you (including me) Inshallah (God Willing). Can you believe we are already in the Last 10 days? Subhanallah (Glory be to God). A week before Ramadan I took out all of my Abayas, ironed them and hung them nicely for Tarawih Prayers. And now, we are at the end of the month.

May Allah accept all of our worship and fasts during the beautiful month and that we live to see the next Inshallah (God Willing) Ameen. It has been a year of my blogging life, and I am so overwhelmed with the love I have received from each and every single one of you. Not only from the States, but from across the world! Thank you all so much. If it wasn’t for the love, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today ❤

Last year I did the “Eid Look Book” and honestly I was kind of hesitant about my looks. Everyones style is different, so thought what the outcome would be. And Alhamdulilah (Thank God) it was very positive. All of my Eid looks were loved by all of you, and this time I am way more confident in sharing more inspirations with you all ❤

I have kept a color scheme for this Look Book. I have worked with all neutral tones. The reason I did so, was because neutrals can go with any skin color, and I have come to realize that. This Summer I pushed myself to wear more nudes/blush tones. And surprisingly, I kind of like it. So for those of you who are worried, don’t be! Trust me, you will look fabulous!

Many of you loved and I mean LOVED the sequins look I did last Eid. So thought why not do something similar but different this year. Again, all neutral tones but added a bit of sparkle to it ❤ I balanced the entire look with a Black Hijab (you can never go wrong with black) and a nice shade lippie. I mixed and matched gold and silver (which I never do) and thats that! What do you ladies think? Feel free to leave comments below! Stay tuned for another look in a few days!

Much Love,

Nelo .A.

The Hijab Souq- Desert Lace Panel Hijab <3

Hello my pretties!

Hoping all of you ladies are in good health and happiness Inshallah (God Willing). For those of you who follow me on Instagram (fashion.with.nelo) you have already seen my little “peek” of my collaboration with the one and only “The Hijab Souq”. Many of you were and still are very eager to know when this collaboration would go live and…here it is!

The Hijab Souq is an online Hijab and accessories boutique based in New York City founded by my dear friend Fatema ❤ . This boutique ranges from different Hijab designs, to elegant ones, to even everyday casual designs! As well as matching accessories from Hijab Pins, to Hijab Cushion Pins, clutches, keychains and much much more!

They are very fashion forward, yet very modest ❤ Their Hijabs in which I have fallen in LOVE with are all breathable materials. You know how hectic it can get in the Summer my Hijabi sisters… :-/

The Hijab I am wearing in this post is known as the “Desert Panel Lace Hijab”. How elegant does the name of that just sound to you? ❤  It is made of a light-weight breathable cotton fabric, with a bit of natural wrinkle. The side panels of the Hijab is a elegant and soft lace in which is a good lengthy amount to drape anyway you desire.

I did a very simple Hijab look, because this Hijab itself has so much elegance to it. I pinned it regularly, and took one panel and draped it around my neck and let it just fall into place. Whereas I took the other panel and tucked it in towards the back of my shoulder ❤ I balanced the remaining of the look with a White Waterfall Cotton Cardigan, black tights, and a simple black undershirt. Then lastly, accessorized it with the famous “Embroidered Black and Gold Calligraphy Clutch” also by the Hijab Souq. Do you see my point on how fashion forward they are?!

I have much much more coming from this successful company, let’s just bare one post at a time now ladies ❤ I promise you the wait is worth it just like this one was!  What do you ladies think? I for one, am in love ❤ Until next time, take care my loves!

Much Love,

Nelo .A.

As Summer ends…

As summer is coming to an end (even though its September the weather is still humid), I am pretty sure all of you are trying to make the most of it especially since it is Labor Day weekend. Well, I have never liked Summer and never enjoyed it. I love the Fall and Winter, those are my seasons to dress up and enjoy the moments. Personally, I find more fun activities during the Fall/Winter rather than Summer… that’s also probably because I do not like beaches? Isn’t summer all about beaches? Unless you’re traveling the world now that is a DIFFERENT story 😉

My girlfriends and I planned a day at the National Harbor, A) the weather was perfect B) 2 of them are visiting from out of the country (they moved after they got married) and C) to eat (I’m all about food…). We started the afternoon with “Elevation Burger”, highly recommended (P.S. they serve HALAL meat) so eating there was not a problem at all! Grubbed on some burgers and fries, and burned it off after all the walking we did afterwards. The National Harbor is a very nice and family oriented area to visit, there is a strip of restaurants from seafoods to fast foods its all there.

If the weather is nice you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful waterfront view, and if its a hot and humid day you can walk on over to the Gaylord. A very exquisite place with some more restaurants, a walking area, indoor and outdoor views of the Harbor and a fun water show to watch. For all of my international viewers and followers if you ever visit the DMV area, make sure to visit here as well. There are activities not only in the Summer but also in the Winter ( I love it in the winter better, obviously).

I hope you ladies enjoy this post, and for those who do live in the area and have not visited yet do have one! Enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend mi amores!

Much love always,

Nelo .A.

Birthday Surprise {08.20.15}

Hello Mi Amores!

Even though it has been 4 days, but Haaaappppyyyyy Bbbbiiiirrrrtttthhhhddddaaayyyyy to me! A huge thanks for those who emailed me and sent me messages on Instagram (@fashion.with.nelo) for the birthday wishes ❤

For those of you who know me VERY well, I absolutely love throwing any sort of party or get-together for my family and loved ones. I don’t know what it is, but I usually make a big deal out of birthdays for those who I love. Just seeing them happy on the day they were born, gives me so much happiness to see them happy and surprised I feel as if I have accomplished something very special for them.

Now moving onto myself I could careless about my birthday (sounds odd right?). The last time I ever put the effort to throw a birthday party was when I turned 18 (a VERY long time ago). Which was a wonderful party and blessed to have it. After that, now this is funny Ramadan ended up being on my birthday for the next few years (LOL). Even though I did try to have a gathering, it never worked. So I guess thats what just stopped me from caring (not complaining!).

So, I love surprises. In my life I have been surprised very little here and there, but never on my birthday which I have always wanted haha. So last year I was surprised for the very FIRST time on the day of my birthday (finally right? jk). I really, had no idea what was going on because at the same time (I wont say friend because she isn’t) it was my sisters wedding week and I was a bridesmaid.

So we were all focused on the wedding, running here and there you know the drill. It was a normal day for me, that whole week we met at her house to finish last minute things. That day she had decided to make it a “fun” day and go to a trampoline park. She also had messaged me to bring an “extra pair of clothes” because afterwards we were going to go out for a “girls night” dinner.

We had a great time at the trampoline park, and that day my sisters didn’t wish me so I was kind of upset (I am emotional like that). We all came back to her place, freshened up and left for dinner. For some odd reason my friend forced me to go with her sister (it was part of the plan which later made sense). As we made it to dinner, her sister kept stalling and making us go the longest way to the restaurant (later I found out because my friend was in front of us with massive balloons so she had to stall and I can’t believe I didn’t notice)

We walk in to a very elegant Italian restaurant, lights were very dim so could barely see anyone or anything. As the waitress is about to take us to our seats, all of a sudden I hear “SURPRIIIIIIIIIIISE”. I got SO confused, and reacted very slowly (LOL). The table was filled my dear friends, and my sisters! I looked at my sisters and said “this is why you didn’t say anything to me! I was so pissed at you guys!”. Then of course, I got emotional and shed some tears because it was the BEST birthday surprise ever. It was all planned by my sisters and friend who was getting married, even though she was so stressed she took the time to plan this together.

It was such an amazing evening, a moment that will never ever leave my heart. Now this year, AGAIN as I planned to have a gathering it did not work out…eh. So what happens? I get a birthday call from my sister (same friend) saying “be ready at 12pm tomorrow I am going to pick you up!”. Of course I said no, but again I had no choice. So she comes and “kidnaps” me and literally SPOILED the hell out of me (I freaking love you). We had an amazing lunch by the waterfront, in which we both tried fresh, organic sea food. It was D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S.

The weather was beautiful so we spent half of the day walking around and chit chatting about the most weirdest things (as always). There was a “Mr.GoodHumor” who went all out with his look and gave us free ice-cream ❤ Later on in the evening she then took me to a sophisticated place for dessert, her sister and another friend we both know joined (she informed them) she knows how much I love crepes and they had the best.

Her being the sneaky girl she is, told the staff it was my birthday so they came out singing with a delicious strawberry cheesecake. So we ate, talked, laughed, throughout the night. I kept telling her how thankful I am to have her in my life and vice versa. And thanks to her I have a birthday post to share with you all! I kept wondering what I would post for my birthday, and boom! I always pray this bond stays close, forever Inshallah (God Willing). Thank you for such a memorable day mi amore.

I never share personal things, but this post had to be shared. Having a special bond with someone needs to last a lifetime, and I am sure many of us have a few or have lost a few. A relationship works both ways, not one. Always be humble, you never know how a small act of kindness can give so much happiness to someone. Now I have a second birthday surprise to remember. I was having too much fun, that I barely focused on my ootd images! I just wanted to be comfy ❤

Much, Much Love!

Unique Hijabs

I believe the title of this post has already got your attention, correct? Because it sure caught mine when I was informed about this company! Fashion & Hijabs, a girl can never ever get enough. Who else strongly agrees? In this post I will be sharing another Hijab company and 2 different Hijabs and styles.

For a Hijabi (A girl who wears the headscarf) having multiple, comfortable, functional, matching, elegant and unique Hijabs is a MUST. Just like how during Fall and Winter we bundle ourselves up and change our wardrobe, that is what a Hijabi does with her hijabs. I mean literally!

Unique Hijabs is a fashion forward, online boutique that offers variety of Hijabs. This company has been in business from 2004, and has been blooming ever since. The sweet owner of this company had contacted me asking me what kind of hijabs I like and colors. She also offered me to visit the website and pick any Hijab.

I found that so difficult to do…you never give a girl the choice to “pick what you like”. Because she will take it all and that was my problem. It took me FOREVER to decide on what I wanted, I wanted all of them! I had messaged the owner back, telling her “you have placed me in a very difficult situation, because it is taking me forever! So please just send me what you wish”

I then gave her my top (I think) 10? Maybe more than that…hahahaha. Ladies, the name “UNIQUE” Hijabs is no joke. They are LITERALLY UNIQUE. I cannot express how beautiful each and every design detail is on each Hijab. The collections range from Jersey to silk to elegant florals for the summer time.

I received my package, and I felt like a little kid. The company had sent me a couple of hijabs from different collections they offer. I hope you ladies enjoy these looks and Hijabs because I surely did. I personally am all about being unique, that is my design inspiration. Being typical or basic is just not me and these Hijabs are what I was missing from my life and HIGHLY recommend for those of you who are looking for “the” Hijab.

I really hope you ladies enjoy these looks, they are 2 DIFFERENT Hijabs and 2 DIFFERENT looks. I have received tremendous compliments on these Hijabs, what more can a girl ask for?

JERSEY “PLUM” HIJAB

“70/26”, Very light weight, very wrinkle resistant, comfortable, drapes beautifully, do not have to worry about Hijab slipping off, many other colors are available. I have never owned nor worn a Jersey Hijab and I am in love! I went for a “boho” look here. I have done 3 different Hijab looks, which one is your favorite?

OMBRE “BLACK” HIJAB

“70/53”, light-weight, drapes beautifully, very wide, comfortable, many colors are available, many hijab styles can be done with this Hijab. I draped it, showing the white around my head and side. I went for a “street” look here. What do you ladies think? (P.S. I have never done this kind of look before…)

The Hijab Vault

Hello Ladies!

How are all of my beauties doing? I hope you all are well and enjoying the week. Thank you all for the well wishes, I am much better now thank God. I think you can tell through my post 😉

Today, I would love to share with you a very elegant Hijab (scarf) uprising boutique known as the “The Hijab Vault”. I personally love hijabs that have “that” beautiful touch to it, and that is what this company offers. They have a variety of lovely hijabs, and ALL of them are elegant. They range from floral prints, to laces, to pearls, to even silks.

The kind owner of this company, messaged me and asked what kind of Hijabs I like. She then had sent me a design (it was more of a surprise) and I must say I am in LOVE. The hijab I have received is the “Camel with Black Trim” from the “Essential Collection”. The size is about “74/34”, and it is a very light-weight cotton.

Very comfortable in the heat we are having (huge plus). There are a variety of colors to choose from (I love them all), but this color goes perfectly with my personality. For those who know me well, I love the draping technique in all my designs/looks. Almost every Hijab I wear I drape. Most cotton scarfs are not easy to drape with, but this scarf draped so well I was amazed.

So ladies, if you are looking for elegant and beautiful Hijabs with amazing comfort and stay quality, Hijab Vault is the answer. I promise you will not regret it

I was going out for a brunch, and had decided to go with a “casual” look. Honestly, the Hijab was my final touch to complete the look. The whole, entire day I received SO many compliments on my hijab and how I had stylized my ootd.

Do not forget to follow me on Instagram (@fashion.with.nelo.com). Well what do you ladies think?

Nelo .A. ❤

Silver Studded Flats: Forever 21. Original Price $34.80 on sale for $8.99. These flats are one of my favorite color combinations, you can wear these flats with almost any outfit.

I also added a black undershirt, you can add any color if you want even a printed shirt would look really nice.
